Accommodation in Queenstown

From international hotel brands to tiny bed-and-breakfasts, accommodation in Queenstown caters to all types of visitors.

As one of New Zealand’s most visited destinations, there is a wide variety of places to stay in Queenstown. Whether you are planning a luxurious stay in a five-star lodge, a getaway with a large group of friends, or just need a bed for a night, you’ll find somewhere to suit. Here are some of the most popular types of accommodation in Queenstown.

Hotels

Head to downtown Queenstown for your choice of international hotel brands including Sofitel, the Holiday Inn, Mercure and the Crown Plaza, or cross the lake to stay at the Hilton, just out of town. There are also several 5-star hotels with stunning lake views, car parking and are just a short distance from the shops.

There are also a couple of independent hotels in town (looks for Kamana Lakehouse and Sherwood Hotel Queenstown) and in nearby Franklin and Arthurs Point. If large hotels seem a bit impersonal to you, there are also several smaller boutique hotels in the area.

Apartments and holiday homes

The accommodation of choice for large groups and families, apartments and holiday homes are perfect for those wanting more space or to cook their meals. There are many apartments and holiday homes for rent in Queenstown, including apart-hotels, private rentals and AirBnBs. Many apartments and holiday houses are situated in Frankton, Arrowtown, and along the river between Queenstown and Frankton.

Bed and breakfasts

For a local touch to your Queenstown experience, stay at one of Queenstown’s bed and breakfasts or hosted lodges. Not only can you enjoy the comforts of home, but you can also get to know your hosts and collect their recommendations for what to see and do in the area. There are many B&Bs just out of central Queenstown and in the nearby town of Arrowtown, offering everything from simple rooms to luxurious suites.

Motels and motor lodges

If you’re looking for comfortable (and slightly larger) rooms at a slightly lower price point, consider opting for a motel or motor lodge. You’ll usually find clean, simple accommodation in convenient locations, often with on-site car parking. Some motels also have studios or small two-bedroom units.

Hostels

Queenstown is popular with backpackers, and there is a range of hostels in town. You can choose between a bed in a dormitory or a private room, and breakfast is sometimes included. Many hostels in Queenstown are situated downtown meaning it’s an easy walk to pubs, bars and restaurants. Two of our favourites are Huka Lodge and Tahuna Pod.

Campsites and holiday parks

If you are driving a campervan to Queenstown, there are a couple of campsites to choose from not far out of town. As well as providing powered sites for motorhomes, you can often find tent sites and basic cabins at these campsites. The Top 10 Holiday Park is a favourite Kiwi brand, and the Queenstown one is located in Arthurs Point, just 10 minutes from central Queenstown by car. If you’re after somewhere a bit closer to downtown, try Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park instead.
